The Kaiser Permanente Division of Research invites applications for a full-time, limited term Post-doctoral Fellow position to join a vibrant research team focused on perinatal epidemiology and maternal and child health research, including identifying genetic and environmental influences on autism spectrum disorder. The Fellow will work in collaboration with Dr. Jennifer Ames, Research Investigator I and Assistant Director of the KP Autism Research Program (ARP). The ARP portfolio focuses on epidemiological and services research to improve the health and health care of individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) across the lifespan, with the goal of translating research findings into clinical practice. The ARP’s agenda includes studies ranging from biomarkers to genetics, health care services, and environmental exposures, incorporating participatory research methods.
The Fellow will be expected to analyze data already collected from past studies (including the NIH ECHO Cohort and the Kaiser Permanente Research Biobank), write papers, and present results at national and international scientific meetings. The Fellow will assist in the preparation and submission of grant proposals. We seek applications from persons with a PhD in epidemiology, human genetics, health services or related field. Preference will be given to applicants with strong analytic and writing skills, experience with genetic analysis, and a demonstrated ability to write successful grant proposals and publish papers. Knowledge of autism or other psychiatric/developmental disabilities is preferred but not required. The position term is 2-3 years. The Fellow may be eligible to apply for internal grant funding.
The successful applicant will have opportunities to further develop their epidemiological and analytic skills supported by an internationally recognized research team in an integrated health care system with extraordinary clinical data sources. Kaiser provides opportunities for continued training, including research seminars at DOR across a variety of disciplines, and through DOR’s training program for early stage investigators. Duties: As part of a larger collaborative team, and under the supervision of Dr. Ames, the Post-doctoral Fellow will:
• Analyze data from a range of sources using appropriate statistical techniques, using SAS, R, and other statistical packages
• Contribute to and draft scientific manuscripts for publication
• Contribute to and develop new research grant proposals
• Liaise with stakeholders and other experts in the field to ensure validity and applicability of research findings
• Facilitate the uptake of research findings by assisting in presenting research results to key audiences and developing materials that support the translation of the findings into practical outcomes
Qualifications:
• Advanced research training
• Experience with statistical methods appropriate for epidemiological studies
• Strong set of analytic and problem-solving skills
• Broad understanding of epidemiological concepts
• Effective communication both verbal and in writing
• Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative team
• Experience with project management
Education Requirements:
PhD in Epidemiology, biostatistics, human genetics, health services or related field preferred.
