March 2026 ISEE-NAC Newsletter

Dear ISEE-NAC Members,

This month’s newsletter includes updates on upcoming NAC activities, opportunities to connect with colleagues across the region, news from our broader ISEE community, and an important update regarding NAC leadership.

As always, thank you for your continued engagement with and support of ISEE‑NAC and the work you all do for Environmental Epidemiology in North America.

Sincerely,

Shannah and Hannah, ISEE-NAC Co-Chairs

NEWS FROM THE NAC

EXECUTIVE COUNCIL UPDATE

Former ISEE‑NAC Co‑Chair Lexie White has stepped down from her position on the Executive Council. We thank Lexie for her leadership, service, and many contributions to the chapter.

Following her departure, the Executive Council elected Hannah Laue, previously serving as Secretary/Treasurer, to serve as Co‑Chair. In addition, Laura McGuinn has joined the Executive Council to fill the open seat, as the candidate next in line based on last fall’s election results.

We look forward to the year ahead with our updated leadership team and are excited to work together in support of the chapter.

Laura McGuinn, PhD, MSc is an environmental epidemiologist and Assistant Professor in the Department of Family Medicine and Institute for Population and Precision Health at the University of Chicago. Her research focuses on the impacts of air pollution and non-chemical stressors on mental health outcomes across the life course with a particular focus on vulnerable populations, windows of susceptibility, and use of emerging technologies. Her work also incorporates community-engaged approaches to address environmental concerns such as noise exposure and access to green space.

NAC ADVOCACY DAY ON CAPITOL HILL

The NAC Policy Committee is organizing an Advocacy Day on Capitol Hill immediately after the NAC Conference on Thursday, June 4, 2026.

This will be an opportunity for environmental epidemiologists to meet with members of Congress (or, most likely, their staff) to share the impact of our research. Advocacy Day is a fantastic opportunity to share your science and practice science communication. Now, more than ever, it is critical that legislators understand the value of environmental epidemiology and our impact on public health!

For more details and to express your interest in attending, please fill out the form below.

Questions about Advocacy Day should be sent to Ariana Haidari at haidari@umich.edu
