ISEE Policy Committee COP27 Update

ISEE at COP27: We Need You

Unfortunately, we did not manage to get an observer status for this current COP27 (we are working hard to make sure we have it in place for COP28!). But this means, we need your help in raising awareness and shifting the conversation towards integrating health in all decisions and plans. We truly believe this is the only way to ensure that we have a fair, sustainable, and healthy transition. Interested in helping us? Then keep reading!

Resources for those wanting to be actively involved at COP27

Here are some useful resources we compiled for you, mainly resulting from our partnership with the Global Climate and Health Alliance (GCHA).  You can access them here. You can find:

  • GCHA talking points to bring health into the conversation. One document for each COP27 theme. They were developed in coordination by several international health communities and organizations to highlight the key messages.
  • COP27 participation list. It contains the tentative list of members attending from each country's delegation.
  • GCHA letter to governments, UNFCCC constituencies and delegations endorsed by ISEE.
  • Social media: Contains the hashtags and accounts to tag if you want us to amplify your tweets.

Join the WhatsApp group for all ISEE members attending the COP27

Want to contribute? Here are some ways you can do it:

  • Join the ISEEatCOP27 WhatsApp group to stay connected.
  • Your amplification of COP27 activities over social media and within your own networks will be extremely valuable. Talk to as many people as you can; share with your networks and be loud. Every engagement, every conversation matters. If you tweet, please tag us (@ISEE_global #ISEEatCOP27) so we can amplify your messages.
  • Join the WHO Health Pavilion sessions virtually live streaming here.

  • Follow us (@ISEE_global ) and the GCHA (@GCHAlliance) on Twitter for updates.

  • Want to give your feedback on your experience at COP27 or simply be involved in defining our next steps in COP28? Register here.

Call for Abstracts: Inaugural NAC Regional Meeting

Call for Abstracts: Inaugural NAC Regional Meeting

We are very excited to announce our inaugural ISEE NAC meeting, this coming June 19-21, 2023, in beautiful Corvallis, OR! The theme of the meeting is "Environmental Justice and Climate Connections," highlighting two pressing issues in North America today: health and exposure disparities and the climate crisis. The emphasis of this meeting will predominantly be on the work of early-career investigators, including the keynote speakers. We aim to highlight the work of our junior members and enhance and facilitate their networking opportunities and career development activities. But of course everyone is welcome, regardless of career stage!

Abstract submissions are due on November 30.

The Committee, one of ISEE’s oldest, aims to strengthen and promote ethics and philosophy in environmental epidemiology. Click here for more details or contact Committee Chair Ruth Etzel at RETZEL@GWU.EDU.
