The GenX Exposure Study (genxstudy.ncsu.edu) is a prospective environmental epidemiology cohort study of >1000 residents of the Cape Fear River Basin in North Carolina, whose drinking water was contaminated with per and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). The cohort includes people ages 6 and older. Biological and environmental samples have been collected and up to 12 PFAS (both newly identified and historically used) have been identified in the blood of study participants. The project is community based and report back of findings is key. The study team includes epidemiologists, exposure scientists, statisticians, clinicians, and community engagement specialists.
The postdoctoral fellow will conduct epidemiologic analyses of the GenX exposure study data, prepare manuscripts for publication, and present findings at both community and scientific meetings. Statistical analyses will involve analyses of chemical mixtures and may include repeated measures analysis.

Topics of current research interest include impact of PFAS on thyroid function, liver function, and metabolism; PFAS toxicokinetics; multiple chemical exposures;
interactive tools to share PFAS information; and exposure reconstruction.
