Meet the Editor series description: This series of two or three webinars featuring senior journal editors, aims to provide researchers with valuable insights into the publication process and strategies for successful manuscript submission. Panelists will discuss the steps to becoming a journal editor, criteria for selecting papers, and effective ways to improve a manuscript’s chances of acceptance. Key topics include writing a strong cover letter, responding to reviewer comments, and understanding the peer-review process and publication timelines. Editors will also highlight emerging trends in academic publishing and offer guidance on the responsible use of AI tools like ChatGPT.
Bert Brunekreef is an emeritus professor of Environmental Epidemiology at the University of Utrecht, The Netherlands. He is currently the editor-in-chief of Environmental Epidemiology, an official journal of the International Society of Environmental Epidemiology. He has led several large international studies on the effects of outdoor air pollution on mortality and morbidity in Europa, and as co-authored over 600 papers in the fields of exposure science and environmental epidemiology.
Joel D. Kaufman, MD, MPH has been a faculty member at the University of Washington for over 20 years, previously serving as Interim Dean of the School of Public Health. His research focuses on environmental factors in cardiovascular disease, particularly air pollution, integrating multiple scientific disciplines. In addition to his academic work, he is a practicing physician, board certified in internal and occupational medicine, and a Fellow of several professional organizations. He has served on various advisory committees, is on the Executive Council of ISEE, and is a member of the National Academy of Medicine and is Editor in Chief, Environmental Health Perspectives.
She is a PhD in Public Health from Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia, and a faculty member at Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas, Lima Peru and a member of the Students and New Researchers Network (SNRN) at the International Society of Environmental Epidemiology (ISEE), serving as a SNRN´s liaison at the Capacity Building and Education Committee (CAPE).
