Africa
Event Description
Join our comprehensive course on Analytical Steps and Approaches in Environmental Epidemiology, designed to equip researchers of all levels with essential skills and knowledge in this important field. Led by esteemed experts Dr. Youssef Oulhote and Dr. Toyib Olaniyan, this course will provide you with a solid foundation in analytical techniques and methodologies relevant to environmental epidemiology.
- Course Date: 25th and 26th July 2023
- Course Duration: 4pm – 6:30pm (CAT) Approximately 5 hours spread over 2 days
- Target Audience: Researchers at any level in the field of environmental epidemiology
- Language of Instruction: English and French (where required)
- Prerequisite: Familiarity with epidemiological concepts and optional comfort with using R-statistical software for the hands-on component
- Course Overview: This course will take you through a step-by-step journey of analytical approaches in environmental epidemiology. You will learn how to craft an effective analytical plan, leverage publicly available data, comprehend causal inferences, and gain practical experience in estimating a dose-response relationship.
- What You Will Learn:
1️⃣ Making an Analytical Plan: Understand the crucial steps to be considered before diving into data analysis, guided by Dr. Olaniyan.
2️⃣ Assessing and Working with Publicly Available Data: Discover how to evaluate and utilize open environmental and survey datasets, essential for environmental epidemiology research. Taught by Dr. Oulhote.
3️⃣ Introduction to Directed acyclic graphs: Gain insight into DAGs and how to choose the appropriate set of confounders in your models. Also, understanding the main biases that may arise from inappropriate adjustment sets, presented by Dr. Oulhote.
4️⃣ Estimating the Concentration-Response Curve: Acquire the skills to estimate concentration-response curves using real-world examples, guided by Dr. Olaniyan.
